Area law enforcement agencies are doing their best to keep the roads safe for travelers, making over two dozen OWI arrests so far over the long Independence Day weekend.
Arrest reports from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office indicate that there were five OWI arrests Friday, six on Saturday, 9 on Sunday and 5 early Monday. Sixteen were charged with first offense operating a motor vehicle or motorized watercraft while intoxicated. Six were charged with their second offense, and three with their third.
This is historically one of the most dangerous weekends on the road across the country.
