An Iowa City woman who was wanted for failing to appear at a case management conference on assault charges was arrested Sunday after allegedly causing a disturbance at an Iowa City convenience store.
According to police, 29-year-old Porscha Curry of the Town and Campus Apartments was at the Kum & Go on Muscatine Avenue just before 5:30 pm, allegedly harassing staff and customers. She reportedly had been trespassed from the business several times, the most recent just the day before.
Curry was wanted for failing to appear at the court date on Friday for an alleged assault on a city bus driver. On the morning of November 29th, she reportedly came up behind the driver and pulled her ponytail while the bus was stopped. The two then went to the floor. According to the victim, Curry was trying to punch and kick her repeatedly while she was on the ground.
Another driver came to the woman’s aid and police were called. The incident was recorded on the bus video system. The driver reported pain in her leg and that her earring came out during the altercation.
No motive for the alleged attack was given.
Curry was arrested Sunday, and a search of her purse allegedly turned up a baggie of marijuana.
Curry faces a charge of Assault causing Bodily Injury from the November incident, as well as Trespass and Marijuana Possession for Sunday’s incident. If convicted on all counts, she faces up to two years in jail.
