A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested on a warrant stemming from a May incident where he allegedly offered to trade services for sex with an underage victim.

According to the criminal complaint, 27-year-old Steven Wilson of I Avenue Northeast sent Snapchat messages to the girl, telling her to trade him tattooing her for sex, or instead send him sexually explicit videos of herself, cautioning her to keep it secret.

The victim is said to be under 16 years of age.

A warrant for Wilson’s arrest was issued on July 1st.

Police caught up with Wilson Thursday night when he was allegedly meeting someone at the Mack Self Storage facility on South Riverside Drive in Iowa City. Knowing that Wilson had a warrant, they made contact with him. He reportedly told officers that the Chevy Cobalt he was driving belonged to a friend, but all the contents of the vehicle were his. Police allegedly discovered several smoking pipes and a small container with marijuana wax in the center console. Wilson reportedly stated that he had used the substance a few days ago, and asked officers if they were really going to charge him for possessing the items.

A check of records showed Wilson’s driving privileges have been suspended since 2017.

He was charged with Attempting to Entice a Minor, 2nd offense Marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Wilson could be sentenced to over three years in jail.
