Armed, wanted subject arrested during North Liberty traffic stop

An armed, wanted subject was arrested Monday night in North Liberty.

32-year-old Jacky Mabikulu of West Benton Street in Iowa City was taken into custody after a traffic stop on Kansas Avenue near Penn Street just before 10:15pm. Mabikulu was wanted on warrant out of Linn County.

Police say a post-arrest search of Mabikulu’s person turned up a firearm hidden in his boxers. It was later determined that the gun had been stolen from a vehicle in Marion. A pipe with burnt residue consistent with methamphetamine was also found.

Mabikulu has a felony 1st Degree Burglary conviction out of Linn County from 2014. He’s charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over ten years in prison.
