A North Liberty man has been arrested on a warrant regarding his alleged attempt at bringing drugs into the Johnson County Jail.

Police reports indicated that 29-year-old James Stewart of Elmridge Court was charged with OWI 2nd offense the evening of July 28th and taken to the Johnson County Jail. The arresting officer was notified a short time later that deputies discovered a small yellow baggie containing a white powdery substance inside his wallet during a jail intake search.

The substance was sent to the Department of Criminal Investigation’s Crime Lab where it was confirmed to be cocaine.

A warrant was issued for Stewart’s arrest on September 29th; he was taken into custody again Monday night. He faces two charges; Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Institution. If convicted on both counts, Stewart could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
