Iowa City Police have charged a woman they say called 9-1-1 after they wouldn’t let her direct traffic through the scene of a medical emergency.

According to arrest records, officers were assisting a patient into an ambulance during a medical assist on the 200 block of East Benton Street just before 6:45 on the night of April 6th. Police say that’s when 34-year-old Gabrielle Coffee of Winchester Lane tried to move between the squad car and the ambulance…while both had their lights activated…and direct traffic to pass through.

Coffee was told that what she was doing was not okay, and that she should back away. That’s when she allegedly called 9-1-1 to report police would not let her through the emergency scene.

Once the ambulance left, police took Coffee into custody. She allegedly physically resisted attempts to place her into handcuffs.

Coffee is charged with Making a False Report to 9-1-1 and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.

An initial appearance is set for May 5th.
