Cedar Rapids man arrested for involvement in 2022 Iowa City shooting

A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a 2022 Iowa City shooting.

Police say the afternoon of May 8th, then 18-year-old Damontay Young of Miller Avenue Southwest was in a vehicle on the 200 block of Highway 6 West when he reportedly fired three rounds at another vehicle, striking the driver.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, while the other two rounds struck the vehicle and disabled it.

Young was identified as the shooter by two witnesses who were also in the vehicle.

A warrant was issued on April 28th; Young was taken to the Johnson County Jail Tuesday afternoon. He’s been charged with Reckless Use of a Firearm causing Bodily Injury, Reckless Use of a Firearm causing Property Damage, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted on all counts, Young could be sentenced to up to 17 years in prison.
