A North Liberty man wanted on a driving while barred warrant was apprehended after allegedly trying to escape officers.
Police located 28-year-old Clarence Jackson at the Waterfront HyVee just before 7pm Tuesday and advised him of a warrant through the Iowa City Police Department. Jackson allegedly denied having a warrant as police tried to place him into handcuffs. He then reportedly pushed officers’ hands away and attempted to run away; Jackson was apprehended after a short chase.
Police allege Jackson had a bottle with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, clear glass pipes used for smoking meth with burnt residue inside, and a clear glass jar with a substance believed to be marijuana when searched.
On Monday just after 1am, Jackson was observed near the intersection of Keokuk and Cross Park Avenue operating a vehicle despite his license being revoked and his driving status as barred. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on him, but he fled despite lights and siren being activated.
Jackson was charged with driving while revoked, driving while barred, and eluding for Monday’s incident, while Tuesday’s arrest included charges of Interference with official acts, meth possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
