Two North Liberty residents…including a teenage girl…have died in a two-vehicle accident in Cass County.

The Iowa State Patrol says 43-year-old Michael Warnacka of Exira was driving a 1999 Ford F-350 northbound on Highway 71 when he crossed the centerline near Troublesome Creek Road just after 12:45 Friday afternoon. Warnacka struck head-on a southbound 2001 Toyota Camry being driven by 46-year-old Erick  Kerkman of North LIberty.

Warnacka and Kerkman died at the scene…as did a 15-year-old North Liberty girl inside Kerkman’s car. A ten-year-old Exira boy in Warnacka’s truck and a 12-year-old North Liberty boy in Kerkman’s car were transported to nearby hospitals. Their conditions have not been released.

Kerkman and his two passengers were all wearing their seatbelts. Warnacka and his passenger were not.

The accident remains under investigation.
