An Iowa City man faces charges that he tried to elude Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies.
Arrest records indicate just before 8:00 Friday night 20-year-old Jawunn Shepherd of Maiden Lane was clocked traveling 87 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on Oak Crest Hill Road just north of Hills. The deputy activated his lights and siren, but Shepherd reportedly accelerated in his 2017 GMC Terrain in an attempt to escape.
Investigators say Shepherd pulled into the driveway of a nearby residence and ran towards the house. He later reportedly admitted it was not his house and he did not know the owners.
Shepherd is charged with Eluding. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
