Two Quad Cities men have been arrested after a reported police chase on Interstate 80 through Iowa City and Cedar County.

A deputy with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reports clocking a 2013 Chrysler 300S driving 92 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone near the Dodge Street exit just before 6:30 Sunday morning. The car refused to pull over despite the officer’s lights and siren being activated, continuing eastbound at speeds up to 125 miles per hour.

The driver’s side rear tire of the suspect’s car fell off during the pursuit, blowing off the back bumper. The car finally came to a stop just east of the West Liberty exit, where the driver reportedly fled on foot before being captured.

20-year-old Alec Brown of Davenport is charged with Felony Eluding, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Interference With Official Acts, Public Intoxication and numerous traffic violations. Investigators say Brown had a breath alcohol level of .062%, and a small baggie of marijuana was located inside the vehicle.

A passenger in the car, 19-year-old Stephen Leonard of Davenport, also fled when the vehicle was pulled over. After his capture, it was learned Leonard had an active warrant for his arrest. He’s also accused of being in possession of a fictitious license, which he claimed belonged to a friend.

Leonard is charged with Possession of a Fictitious License and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.

Brown faces a maximum sentence of over six years in prison, if convicted on all charges.
