University of Iowa officials say a Friday fire at the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories is not suspicious.

That’s according to a news release issued by the school. UI officials say Iowa City firefighters were called to the North Madison Street facility…just north of the Iowa Memorial Union….at 10:37 Friday morning. The scene was stabilized by 11:28 a.m. and fire crews officially cleared the scene at 11:58 a.m. No injuries were reported.

It was the second fire at the Advanced Technology Labs in as many days. Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty firefighters responded to a blaze at the facility just after 1:00 Thursday afternoon. Fire crews removed steel wall panels and construction materials in the affected area to check for fire extension and extinguished any burning materials. The scene was stabilized by 2 p.m. and fire crews officially cleared the scene at 2:13 p.m.

The timing of the back-to-back fires had led to speculation online that the two incidents were suspicious. That was cleared up by the UI’s statement.

The causes of both fires do remain under investigation.
