City of Coralville news release
On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Coralville historian Rex Brandstatter and community volunteers will lead free, historic tours of personalities who are buried in Coralville’s Oak Hill Cemetery. Visit the gravesites of former Coralville residents, community leaders, business people, and interesting characters.
Tours are at 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 5:00 pm, and last approximately one hour. Coralville cemetery volunteers will “attempt to reveal information” at each site. Each walk begins with a “Coralville cemetery history enlightenment,” and ends with a look into the future. This event is free and open to the community; no reservations are needed.
Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. If you would like to take the cemetery tour but are not able to walk the route, golf carts will be available. Oak Hill Cemetery is located at 1290 1st Avenue in Coralville. This event is presented by Johnson County Historical Society and Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, and is organized by the Coralville 150th Anniversary Committee.
The tour is part of a series of free community events held through October 2023 to celebrate Coralville’s sesquicentennial; Coralville will celebrate its 150th anniversary on October 3, 2023. For more information about Coralville’s 150th anniversary, visit www.coralville.org/coralville150.
