Iowa 1st Congressional District Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks is explaining her vote to oust fellow Republican George Santos from the House of Representatives.

The House voted on Friday to expel the New York congressman after a blistering ethics report on his conduct heightened lawmakers’ concerns about the scandal-plagued freshman. Santos became just the sixth member in the chamber’s history to be ousted by colleagues, and the third since the Civil War.

Miller-Meeks issued a statement Friday afternoon saying, “Having followed due process in the House, in consideration of the scathing House Ethics Committee report documenting considerable evidence of criminal activity, including fraud, and after listening to my constituents, today, I voted to expel Representative George Santos.”

Miller-Meeks went on to say the Senate should consider the expulsion of Democrat Bob Mendez of New York, who is currently under indictment on bribery and extortion charges. She also said she plans to continue investigating President Joe Biden, including a possible impeachment vote.

The vote to expel Santos was 311-114, easily clearing the two-thirds majority required. All four Iowa Congressional Representatives voted to oust Santos.
