A registered sex offender is facing a new charge after he allegedly failed to inform the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office about an Instagram account he created.
44-year-old Richard Lund of South Lucas Street has been on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry since January of 2011 following a 2006 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse conviction out of Muscatine County. Lund’s victim in the case is listed as a girl between the ages of 14 and 17.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says at some point Lund created an Instagram account without disclosing that information to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, as required for any new social media account. The account was discovered to belong to Lund last month.
Lund was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 6:00 Thursday night and charged with a Sex Offender Registry Violation. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
