A woman who danced on an Iowa City Police car has served a one-day jail sentence.
The incident in question occurred on the Ped Mall just before 12:30 a.m. on August 14th of 2022. Arrest records indicate 22-year-old Deborah Williams of Burlington jumped on top of an ICPD squad car and began dancing while taking a picture. Williams damaged the hood with scratches and dents. The incident was caught on security video, and Williams was later identified and taken into custody.
Court records indicate Williams skipped her scheduled trial in December of 2022. She was arrested this week and booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday night. On Thursday, she pleaded guilty to a 5th Degree Criminal Mischief charge and spent one day in jail with a $105 fine.
Williams also has a case management conference at the Johnson County Courthouse on Monday on a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge stemming from the same night of the police car vandalism.
