Transient accused of stabbing victim in the chest, throwing him into the Iowa River

Allegedly stabbing another man in the chest and throwing him into the Iowa River to die has led to a felony charge against a transient.

Iowa City Police say just before 1:30 Friday afternoon 47-year-old Yossarian Williams was engaged in an argument with another subject near the Benton Street Bridge when he stabbed the man in the chest and threw him into the river, telling him he was going to die.  The man had emergency surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he was still in critical condition at last report.

Williams, whose driver’s license indicates is a resident of the state of Washington, is charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
