An area transient was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly attempting to steal items from the Waterfront HyVee and trying to swing at a security officer.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:41pm. Officers were called to the store for shoplifting, involving 34-year-old Alissa Walls. HyVee security advised they had reportedly caught Wells in the act, and when confronted, Walls allegedly swung at one of the officers. The officer drew his taser in response.
Staff said Walls had over $450 worth of items she was attempting to take without paying.
She was charged with 5th degree Theft and simple Assault. She could be sentenced to up to 60 days in jail if convicted on both counts.
