An Iowa City burglary suspect has been taken into custody.

Iowa City Police say property management at 630 South Capitol Street reported just after 10:15 Tuesday morning that a suspect in recent thefts at the apartment building was back on the property. 34-year-old Kyle Von Rossum, a local transient, was reportedly seen taking about 30 seconds to enter a locked door at about 10:30 a.m. He then made his way to the laundry room, where property management believed he had previously stolen laundry and quarters from the machines. Arriving officers located Von Rossum in the laundry room with over $12 in quarters on his person. He was also wanted for a previous incident at the address where he is allegedly seen on security video stealing tires from a bicycle around 5:00 last Sunday night.

A search of Von Rossum’s backpacks incident to his arrest reportedly turned up bicycle tools, a full lock-picking kit, a small bag of marijuana and a glass pipe.

Von Rossum is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, 4th Degree Theft, Possession of Burglar’s Tools, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over nine years in prison.
