A Riverside man faces numerous drug charges after an Iowa City traffic stop.

Iowa City Police say 23-year-old Miguel Medina Espinoza of Highway 22 was a passenger in a car that was pulled over near the intersection of Gilbert Court and Kirkwood Avenue just after 6:15 Monday night. A probable cause search of Medina Espinoza’s backpack reportedly turned up seven one-gram bars of suspected psilocybin and two THC vape cartridges. A further search allegedly turned up .49 grams of cocaine, .59 grams of heroin, 34 MDMA pills, two THC vape cartridges, 53 diazepam pills, and 43 pills of an epilepsy medication.

Medina Espinoza is charged with five counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one count each of Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.
