A local transient is accused of committing an assault at the Old Capitol Town Center.
Iowa City Police say 36-year-old Joseph Lonier was involved in a verbal altercation near the Capitol Street entrance on February 10th when he punched the other person in the back of the head and again in the face, causing a laceration to the bridge of man’s nose.
Lonier is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
Lonier has a lengthy history of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, harassment and other charges.
