Muscatine man accused of assaulting, injuring Iowa City Police officers

A Muscatine man is accused of assaulting and injuring Iowa City Police officers.

According to arrest records, police were placing a subject under arrest on the Ped Mall just after 1:45 Sunday morning when their friend, 25-year-old DeMarco Johnson, attempted to rush the officers. As Johnson was being taken to the ground, he fell on one officer, knocking him unconscious and causing a serious concussion.  Johnson allegedly continued fighting with police before being tasered. Another officer suffered an ankle injury.

Johnson is charged with Assault on Peace Officers, Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury, Interference With Official Acts Causing Serious Injury, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over four years in jail.
