A local developer says he plans to divest of his Iowa City residential properties, citing issues with Iowa City officials and tenants.
Tracy Barkalow told The Daily Iowan that he plans to sell all of his residential properties in Iowa City within the next five years. Barkalow owns a number of properties in and around downtown in which many University of Iowa students live. He told the newspaper he came to the decision to leave the residential property business because city officials have been resistant to development. Barkalow specifically cited a legal fight he had with the city over the development of property on North Governor Street.
Another reason cited by Barkalow is what the DI calls “ongoing challenges in managing tenant relationships.”
