Iowa City Police have arrested a transient they say was operating an excavator while intoxicated.
The ICPD received reports of an apparently intoxicated individual driving an excavator at the Muscatine Avenue Kum & Go just before 3:00 Saturday afternoon. Arriving officers found 40-year-old Dustin Snyder operating the excavator in the public roadway on the 2600 block of Muscatine Avenue. Snyder allegedly showed signs of intoxication and admitted to purchasing and consuming alcohol. He performed poorly on field sobriety testing and registered a breath alcohol level of .222%.
Snyder is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense and Driving While Suspended. He has a previous OWI conviction from last September, and his license is suspended for non-payment of previous fines.
