A bench warrant has been issued for a suspect in a recent assault at the Old Capitol Town Center.
Iowa City Police say 57-year-old transient David Murray attacked another man who was already being assaulted by 53-year-old Shelter House resident Charles Henderson. The incident occurred on the morning of January 29th.
Investigators say the victim was on the ground after Henderson put him in a headlock and punched him in the face. That’s when Murray allegedly kicked the man in the head. Murray reportedly told police he was a passerby and decided to attack the man after Henderson had attacked him because he knew the victim had previously been accused of sexual assault.
Both Murray and Henderson were charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Henderson pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Disorderly Conduct in February and was sentenced to one day in jail. Murray still faces up to one year in jail, if convicted. Online records indicate Murray skipped his arraignment earlier this week, leading Judge Brandon Schrock to issue a bench warrant on Friday.
