An Iowa City man was arrested after allegedly stealing groceries last month.

Police say the incident occurred at the downtown Target on East Washington Street at 12:19 pm March 31st.  63-year-old Robert Henderson was allegedly observed and recorded on video as he removed his backpack and started putting steaks inside. He reportedly attempted to exit the store with the unpaid merchandise but was stopped by asset protection.

Henderson allegedly refused to back to the store office as requested; he instead surrendered three of the six steaks he allegedly stole and left on foot.  The three stolen steaks were valued at $50.

Henderson was charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor due to four prior theft convictions. He could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
