The cost of a Mega Millions ticket more than doubles beginning with today’s drawing, but the odds of winning are better too.
Tickets doubled in price from $1 to $2 in 2017; the price is now $5. However, the Megaplier, which used to cost an extra dollar, is built into the ticket price and can increase non-jackpot prizes from two to ten times.
The minimum jackpot jumps from $20 to $50 million, and non-jackpot prizes jump from between two dollars and a million dollars to ten dollars and up to ten million dollars.
The overall odds of winning go from 1 in 24 to 1 in 23.
Players choose five numbers between 1-70 and a Mega Ball number between 1-24, down from 1-25.
MegaMillions tickets are sold in Iowa and 44 other states, Washington DC and the Virgin Islands. Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays.
