Multiple agencies responded to a three-alarms fire at a Coralville apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.

The Coralville Fire Department was called to 927 Boston Way just before 4:15 for a fire that appeared to start on the second floor. They were soon joined by firefighters from North Liberty, Iowa City, Tiffin, Solon, West Branch, Hills, and Oxford. The building and surrounding area were evacuated, and the fire was finally brought under control just after 5:30.

A news release from the Coralville Fire Department indicates it is believed 12 people were home at the time of the blaze, but all occupants were able to get out safely under their own power. Several pets were unable to be rescued. It is believed that 22 people were displaced and are being assisted by EMA, United Way and Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is ruled to be accidental but is still under investigation. The damage is estimated at around one million dollars.

Coralville firefighters were still on the scene as of Wednesday night.

Two firefighters had drywall fall on them, with one being transported to University of Iowa Health Care. There were no other reported injuries.
