Cedar Rapids firefighters extinguished a house fire overnight, but not before the structure suffered significant damage.

Crews were dispatched to the 3600 block of Mt Vernon Road SE at 12:33am Thursday on reports of smoke coming from a house. Upon arrival, firefighters found fire coming from a window on the front of the home.  The two adults in the home were awakened by the heat of the fire and were outside with their pet on arrival.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but the structure suffered significant fire and water damage. A damage estimate was made immediately available.

There were no injuries.   Cause of the fire is under investigation.
