Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is warning Iowans about the top ten reported scams and complaints, urging them to protect themselves from fraud.
KCRG TV reports that last year, the Iowa Attorney General’s office’s Consumer Protection Division received over 3,900 complaints, which addressed more than 30 different industries and scam categories.
The top five complaints were Auto, Internet, imposter scams, home improvement and personal goods.
Consumers complained the most about faulty auto repair work, followed by failure to disclose prior damage on used vehicles, and warranty plans.
Internet complaints included issues with social media, billing and service disputes, and tech support scams.
Common imposter scams included fake job offers, online shopping, and emails purporting to be from the IRS and/or the Social Security Administration.
Home Improvement complaints were mainly about contractors timeliness on completing jobs and poor workmanship.
Rounding out the top five were complaints regarding problems with purchasing food, clothing, and accessories, both in-store and online.
