Charges have been dropped in an Iowa City home invasion case.
On Friday, Judge Brandon Schrock dismissed charges of Accessory After the Fact and Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons against 29-year-old Deeshawn Oliver of Regal Lane. Online records do not indicate why the charges were dropped.
According to arrest records, Oliver’s brother, 41-year-old Walter Oliver, entered a residence on Taylor Drive just after 8:45 on the night of May 17th, 2024. Investigators said he displayed a gun, demanded money, and threatened to shoot one of the residents.
Police claimed a search warrant executed on Walter Oliver’s Taylor Drive residence turned up a black bag in the possession of Deeshawn Oliver, and that two handguns were found inside. Deeshawn Oliver allegedly admitted to attempting to hide the two guns for his brother in order to cover up his brother’s involvement in the reported home invasion.
Walter Oliver was charged with multiple felonies. Court records show he pleaded guilty to a Public Intoxication charge and was fined $105 last month. All other charges were dismissed.
