Coralville woman faces charges after allegedly violating no contact order

A Coralville woman who was arrested March 31st on domestic assault charges has been taken into custody after allegedly violating a court mandated no contact order.

Sunday night just after 10:30, 55-year-old Carrie Latham was at the Western Hills Estates manufactured housing community.  Officers were dispatched to the area for a report of a woman rolling around on the ground.  They reportedly arrived to find Latham lying down on the stairs to the porch of the protected parties.

Police allege Latham had very slurred speech, difficulty walking and keeping her balance.  She reportedly smelled strongly of ingested alcohol and was covered head to toe in mud. She allegedly admitted to drinking, quote, “a lot.”

Latham refused a post arrest PBT. She was taken to the UIHC main  campus on Hawkins Drive to be checked out. She was released to officers in a wheelchair at around 12:30am. Latham allegedly told officers she wasn’t going to let them take her anywhere else and dug her feet in to prevent movement. She was reportedly told multiple times to pick up her feet but refused, and stiffened up once put in the squad car, refusing to sit. Latham allegedly kicked an officer in the leg during the incident.

Latham faces a 2nd offense Domestic Assault charge from an incident where she was accused of throwing a bottle of alcohol, a lava lamp at her daughter and the father. The father was struck and suffered injuries to his back. She could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.

For Sunday night’s incident, Latham faces a maximum jail term of up to fourteen months.
