Citing the Iowa Civil Rights Act, the Linn-Mar school board has voted to remove a policy that protects transgender students from discrimination.

Iowa lawmakers this session removed gender identity as a protected class under the Act, and the school board voted 6-1 to follow suit.

KCRG TV reports transgender and non-binary students will still be protected under Linn-Mar’s Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policy. That protects all students from bullying no matter their, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
