Cedar Rapids Police are investigating two shots-fired incidents that occurred Tuesday night.
According to a release from the City, patrol officers responded to a property damage shooting at 16th St and Washington Ave SE at approximately 7:33pm. Several items related to a shooting were collected. Multiple houses with damage, including a gas meter, were struck by gunfire. The Cedar Rapids Fire Department and utility workers controlled the gas leak. Patrol officers identified witnesses who stated several juveniles were in the road and ran into a nearby residence.
A search warrant was authorized for 356 16th St SE, and prior to being served, several juveniles came out of the house. All were interviewed and released without charges at this time. Evidence was collected during the search of the home.
Later in the evening, officers were called to another location regarding a car being shot at while in the same area as the original shooting. Multiple bullet holes were discovered. A search of the car was conducted and evidence inside shows a possible connection to the incident at 16th St and Washington Ave SE.
The investigation into this incident continues and no further information is available.
