An area transient was arrested on a warrant stemming from an alleged assault earlier this month.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning April 2nd at the Agape Café’s weekly breakfast in Old Brick Church on East Market Street. According to the criminal complaint, 29-year-old Darnell Lewis was inside receiving food service and sitting at a dining table when he approached a woman sitting at the same table.  Lewis allegedly got up and went around the table, then struck the woman in the face with his hand. The force of the blow reportedly knocked her off her chair and to the floor.

The woman suffered pain to her face, neck and back as a result of the alleged assault.

A warrant for Lewis’ arrest was issued on April 8th; he was taken to the Johnson County Jail Saturday night and charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to a year if convicted.
