Iowa City Police say a machete-wielding transient broke into a residence and threated to kill everyone inside, leading to a lengthy police standoff.
According to arrest records, 31-year-old Fermin Lagos entered a house on Tracy Lane without permission just before 7:45 Monday night while holding what police describe as a “machete-style knife” and told everyone inside the residence that they were going to die.
The incident led to a police standoff which ended after a few hours. Lagos, who has a previous domestic abuse conviction, was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 4:15 Tuesday morning and charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over 26 years in prison.
