A suspect has been arrested after allegedly leading Johnson County deputies on a chase south of Iowa City.

University Heights Police say they attempted a traffic stop on the 900 block of Melrose Avenue just after 10:30 Monday night. The 2019 Honda Civic fled, and the officer chose not to pursue.

A Johnson County deputy spotted the vehicle minutes later on Sand Road, and another traffic stop was attempted for failure to dim, speeding, and a missing taillight. The vehicle reportedly sped up to speeds over 100 miles per hour before finally pulling over.

The driver, identified as  21-year-old Jaryn Willis of Finkbine Lane, is now charged with Felony Eluding, Careless Driving, and two counts of Driving While Denied or Revoked. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
