Iowa City Police say a knife-wielding transient threatened his victim before causing thousands of dollars in damage to their car.

24-year-old James Snyder was wanted for an incident that occurred just after 1:15 on the afternoon of January 17th. Police say Snyder was at a Broadway Street apartment when he refused to leave, became enraged, and picked up a large kitchen knife. He allegedly threatened the resident with it before going outside and using the blade to scratch up the resident’s car, causing an estimated $3,000 in damage.

Snyder was also wanted by Coralville Police, who say at about 5:45 on the night of February 26th he threw a rock through a car window on 10th Street Court, causing over $300 in damage.

Snyder is charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, 4th Degree Criminal Mischief, and Assault While Displaying a Weapon. If convicted on all three charges, he faces a maximum of eight years in prison.

Snyder also faces a June case management conference on a separate 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief charge after he allegedly stomped on the hood of an ambulance parked outside the University of Iowa Health Care Campus Medical Center in July of 2024.
