A prison sentence has been handed down to a Cedar Rapids man accused of stealing a car in Iowa City and using it to commit burglaries to storage units near Solon.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 45-year-old Eron Ferroni of 29th Avenue SW rode a bicycle to an address on the 3500 block of Taft Avenue just after 3:00 on the morning of September 7th, 2024. Ferroni allegedly found a key fob in an unlocked 2014 Subaru and drove the car away.
Just before 3:45 that afternoon, Ferroni reportedly used the car to ram overhead doors at A+ Lake Macbride Storage on Ely Road, gain access to a pair of storage units and steal items from inside. The incident was captured on security video. Damage to the doors was estimated at over $2,500.
Cedar Rapids Police found the stolen Subaru at the Aspen Inn on Southridge Drive SW on the morning of September 16th. Inside were pry tools, bolt cutters, and other tools used in burglaries. The vehicle had accrued over $5,000 in damage after it was stolen.

Ferroni was charged with two counts each of 3rd Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief and one count each of 2nd Degree Theft, 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Burglar’s Tools. If convicted on all charges, he would have faced a maximum of 29 years in prison.

Ferroni reached a plea deal last month, and on Thursday Judge Brandon Schrock sentenced him to two five-year prison sentences and a two-year sentence on two of the criminal mischief charges and one of the burglary charges. The other counts were dismissed.
