The Johnson County Board of Supervisors voted last week to give financial support to a summer youth program led by Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County.
The YES, or Youth Empowered to Serve, program supports summer youth employment and provides skills training, personal development, and hands-on work experience.
The Daily Iowan reports the program, in collaboration with Johnson County Social Services, serves up to 25 teens between the ages of 14 and 17. It’s emphasis is on reaching low-income communities and those at higher risk of involvement with the juvenile justice system.
The Board of Supervisors voted to provide $33,000 in funding for the program, which runs through August 30th.
