Second rock attack in three days reported at 501 Southgate

A second rock attack in the span of three days has been reported at 501 Southgate Avenue.
Iowa City Police say 27-year-old Montelle Craig of Des Moines tried to touch a victim who was sleeping at the 501 Apartments just after midnight Monday. He then allegedly tried to grab the woman and punch her. During the ensuing scuffle, Craig allegedly struck the woman with a rock near her ribs, causing a red mark and pain.

Craig is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.

Just before 3:45 Saturday afternoon 45-year-old transient Kelli Rehwinkel reportedly attacked and injured two victims with a rock at the same address. Arrest records indicate one victim suffered a bruise on her cheek, while the other had a laceration to the back of his head.

Rehwinkel is charged with two counts of Assault Causing Injury. If convicted, she faces a maximum of two years in jail.
