An Iowa City man faces an invasion of privacy charge after allegedly setting up a hidden camera in a bathroom.
Police say between March 20th and 28th, 29-year-old Rafael Lara Cruz of Century Street set up a hidden camera in a bathroom at his residence to unknowingly record the bathroom activity of the victim. He reportedly stored the recorded content on his personal electronic device later located by deputies.
The incident was discovered while deputies were investigating another hidden camera incident involving Lara Cruz. Several other voyeur style graphic material was allegedly kept in his possession.
Lara Cruz was already in the Johnson County Jail since April 10th on Trespass using a Camera or Electronic Surveillance Device and 5th degree Criminal Mischief charges. He’s now been charged with Invasion of Privacy, an aggravated misdemeanor. If convicted on all charges, Lara Cruz could be sentenced to over four years in prison.
