An Iowa City man was arrested Wednesday after authorities alleged he sexually assaulted an underage girl last year.
The incident occurred July 4th at the South Riverside Drive residence of 37-year-old Rodulfo Castillo Mendez. Police say he has a position of power over the child. The two were alone together at the residence when Castillo Mendez held the girl against the ground, then told her to go to his bedroom where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Castillo Mendez then later reportedly told the victim not to tell anyone what happened.
The girl told police that she was scared and felt she had to comply with Castillo Mendez.
A warrant was issued, and he was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon. Castillo Mendez could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted on a charge of 3rd degree Sexual Abuse involving a Child Coerced by a Person in Authority.
