The Iowa City Emergency Services Youth Camp returns this summer.

The Iowa City Fire Department, Iowa City Police Department, Iowa City Animal Services, University of Iowa Department of Public Safety, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Ambulance Service, and and Johnson County Emergency Management will host two sessions of the youth camp this summer. Registration opens today.

A session for students who will be in 7th or 8th grades in the 2024/25 school year is scheduled for July 28-29. A session for rising high school students is scheduled for July 31-Aug 1. Both sessions will take place at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Center Park Lodge, 579 McCollister Blvd., and the Iowa City Fire Department’s Training Center, 3810 Napoleon Lane. The Training Center is located across the street from the Terry Trueblood Recreation Center and both locations are accessible via Iowa City Transit.

This informative and inclusive camp is designed for students with an interest in public safety, want to learn more about emergency services, or are just looking for a fun, hands-on camp this summer. Topics include: Basic fire department emergency operations (ropes/knots, ladders, hoses, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, firefighter turnout gear, etc.), Emergency Management Services (EMS) including CPR, First Aid, Ambulance Ops, Special Response Team, and Crime Scene Investigation (list is not all inclusive and subject to change).

A link to the online registration forms for the 7th/8th grade and high school sessions can be found below. There is no fee to attend; however, attendance for each session will be capped and filled on a first come, first serve basis. Participants are expected to attend each day of their session.
