A Cedar Rapids woman was charged after allegedly assaulting personnel at the UIHC main campus.

The incident occurred the evening of April 6th at the Hawkins Drive facility. 20-year-old Ajiyah Cunningham of 8th Street NW allegedly engaged in fighting and violent behavior while she was a patient.

According to the police report, Cunningham shoved and/or pushed several staff members as well as hitting, kicking and punching them in the process. She kicked a registered nurse in the chest and shoved another in the chest, causing pain to both.

Cunningham was observed by officers on camera during the incident. Medical staff on duty stated she was delusional at the time.

Cunningham was already wanted on a Criminal Mischief charge after reportedly throwing a chair in her room at the UIHC in an attempt to break the window. Her action caused about $400 damage to the drywall.

Cunningham was arrested Friday morning and faces two counts of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and one count each of Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, she could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
