A Coralville man was arrested after allegedly assaulting his wife and two children.

Police responded to the Woolridge Drive residence of 44 year-old Ali Hussein just before 8pm Friday on reports of hearing him abuse his wife.  Officers were told Hussein hit or slapped the victim and then threw her to the ground.  Upon arrival, the victim reportedly had a swelling under her right eye. Hussein also allegedly assaulted his wife two days prior to the current incident, and it’s believed he assaults her about every other day.

The couple’s 13-year-old daughter was present, and Hussein allegedly hit her in the jaw and face, resulting in swelling and bruising.  He also reportedly strangled her, telling her that he was going to beat her to death. The girl reported seeing stars while being strangled.

It was also alleged that on or about the week of April 21st, Hussein pressed a hot iron to the back of the couple’s 11 year old child’s legs. Officers observed the burns and noticed they were still healing, as parts of the wound were scabbing and others still fresh.

Hussein was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 1:41am Saturday. He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, Child Endangerment causing Serious Injury, Child Endangerment causing Bodily Injury, and 1st degree Harassment. If convicted on all counts, Hussein could be sentenced to up to 13 years in prison.
