Iowa City nonprofit FilmScene has announced they’ve lost their federal funding.
A Facebook post from the groups said, “We just heard that our NEA grant has been terminated as our work is no longer ‘prioritized by the President.’” They also wrote that President Trump is proposing complete elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.
FilmScene says they are not powerless in this moment of great uncertainty, and they will continue to do what they categorize as “uncompromising work.” They say the best way to help is by patronizing their movie showings, become members of FilmScene, or by making a donation.
