The Johnson County Board of Supervisors approved an expenditure for the recently remodeled Administration Building to prevent a possible major issue in the future.

The Daily Iowan reports the board unanimously approved the over $94,000 cost to install ten ceiling-mounted heaters above the building.  During a cold snap this past January, vulnerabilities in the recently remodeled facility’s Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems were exposed when sub-zero temperatures caused the building’s second floor to plunge into the 20s. Staff was able to restore heating and drain the sprinkler system before it could freeze and break.

The new heaters will work with the existing HVAC system to keep the pipes above 40 degrees Ferenheit at all times.
