Less than two weeks after the new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty campus first opened its doors, the facility has seen its first arrest.
North Liberty Police were already present just before 5:45 Thursday afternoon when 19-year-old Martrell McWilliams of Sugar Creek Lane reportedly began acting unruly toward a patient and staff in the emergency department and was asked to leave. University of Iowa Police say instead, McWilliams punched two large holes in the drywall, causing an estimated $500 in damage. A scuffle ensued, and a North Liberty Police officer was pushed to the ground, causing an injury to his right elbow.
McWilliams is now charged with Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
