Muscatine firefighters responded after a reported explosion at a residence Saturday.
According to a post on the Fire Department’s Facebook page, the call came in at approximately 6:18am. The 911 caller reported a loud boom and smoke coming from a residence on the 1000 block of East 8th Street.
Upon arrival, crews found the residents out of the house, and light smoke in the area. Damage was observed on the front door that appeared to be from an explosion. Reports of a loud boom were received from throughout the area.
Due to the potential for an explosion, the State Fire Marshal was called in to assist in the investigation. The scene was cleared at approximately 9am.
Fourteen firefighters from the Muscatine Fire Department responded to the scene, as well as multiple staff from the Police Department, and the State Fire Marshal. No injuries were reported, but initial damage was estimated at approximately $1000.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation, but authorities believe it to be an isolated incident.
